Description: The Berea College Bluegrass Ensemble was founded in the fall of 1999 to give Berea College students with background or potential in bluegrass music an opportunity to play in a "working" bluegrass band with weekly rehearsals, performances, travel, etc. Members are selected by audition, and typically remain with the group until they graduate from Berea College. Members also earn academic credit for each semester of participation in the group. The band’s recent visit to Japan was the group's second tour abroad, the first being a two week tour of Ireland in the summer of 2004.
The band is directed by Al White, formerly a member of the Bluegrass Alliance and the McLain Family Band.

Description: Lee Knight hails from the Adirondack Mountains of New York and became interested in folk music while in high school. He was introduced to traditional Southern Appalachian music while attending Wofford College in Spartanburg, SC.. As a result, Lee became interested in learning first hand from singers and musicians who carried on the traditons in their families and communities. He has studied folk music in his native Adirondacks, the southern Appalachians, Canada, Russia, Central Asia, Scotland, Colombia and Peru. He performs in community concerts, schools, camps, Elderhostels and libraries around the country accompanying himself on dulcimer, guitar and banjo.

Charlotte Crittenden is a popular local caller with an engaging personality and a fine selection of dances. Bob Dalsemer is an internationally known caller and the Folk School's Music and Dance Coordinator.
Based in Huntsville and Birmingham, Alabama, and Clemson, South Carolina, Waxwing plays for dances all over the Southeast and beyond. Their music spans many styles, including Celtic, Up East, Quebequois, Old Time, and contemporary tunes with a little classical, jazz, pop, and reggae stirred into the mix.

Description: There is no doubt that George Jones helped set the standard for modern country music. His music has had a major impact as one of the architects of the country music sound. By age 24, Jones had been married twice, served in the Marines and was a veteran of the Texas honky-tonk circuit. George Jones had his first hit at Mercury Records in 1959 with “White Lightning”. Other well known #1 hits such as, “Tender Years”, “She Thinks I Still Care”, “The Window Up Above”, The Race is On”, “He Stopped Loving Her Today”, and “Walk Through This World With Me” has made Jones one of the top male singers in country music.
In 2003, Jones received the 2002 Medal of Arts from President George W. Bush at the White House ceremony. Jones continues to work about 100 shows per year with high energy and good health. In addition to his tour schedule Jones has “branded” a line of breakfast meats featuring sausage, bacon, microwavable “sausage and biscuits” and breakfast croissants as well as his own “White Lightning” water.
